Details: "We have been running Regional Anaesthesia and Acute Pain fellowships since September 2010. It is a 6 month, competency based program applicable for Anaesthetic speciality trainees ST3-7 in the Northern Deanery. It is appointed on a competitive basis, and currently offered by the Northern School of Anaesthesia. There are plans to offer an additional Clinical fellow post for Speciality Doctors, Trainees and Post CCT candidates. A clinical trial unit is soon to be started based at the Darlington Memorial Hospital. We have a team of a Consultants, Surgeons, Pain team and Clinical staff who actively support regional pain relief techniques and will assist in research projects, audits and academic publications. It is the centre of excellence for Upper limb surgery, Foot and Ankle surgery, Upper GI & Breast surgery and has most specialities except cardiothoracic and Neuro surgery. We have set up facilities for ultrasound guided single injection block and Continuous catheter techniques, neuraxial scanning and have a followup registry system. We follow on the parallel working concept and the Regional fellow is supernumerary, except for night on-call duties. The hospital is going through an upgrade and expansion of its theatre facilities to 11 Theatres. It also runs 4 additional theatres at Bishop Auckland Hospital, catering to plastic surgery, daycase general surgery and lower limb arthroplasty. NESRA ( Northern England Society of Regional Anaesthesia) is based here and we have partnered with James Cook University Hospital and Durham University to run a cadaveric and ultrasound workshop annually."
